How it works
« on: April 09, 2010, 06:13:00 AM »
Its very simple,

We've noticed out and about on our travels that there is a noticeable level of improvement with bookmarked links when they appear from more than one user account. we have been soft testing this on client work now for quite some time and found a very "unscientific" piece of information that effectively means that if you bookmark a link with more than about 5-6 different accounts it confers an additional level of importance in the eyes of the Search Engines.

Now as to the exact amount of this so called importance, nobody is too sure but we do know that it has made a difference in our experience with client submissions (yes contrary to public perception we do use this Network for our own Client submissions too :))

So to remedy this we have introduced the Members only Bookmarking Exchange - SLS Bookmarking Exchange whereby members can enter in the details of urls / links they could do with extra bookmarking support with and then other members can then offer to help out. Now this is done very much on an unofficial basis and it is not manadatory that you take part but......it kind of makes sense for all of us to help each other out as and when the sitation arises.

We all pull together and then we'll all succeed - a more modern day equivalent of the old college T Shirts of the Seventies that always proclaimed "United we stand, divided we fall".

For further instructions as to exactly how this system will work then log into your members area if you have not done so already and then in this area you will be given exact instructions as to how this system will work.

This is a great idea!

Socialadr works on exactly the same principle and your definately right steve about using the numerous user accounts so this could be a real winner.

Would be good to introduce some accountability or rewards system.

Such as when ever you carry out a book mark you add the Urls that you have book marked to a thread. Firstly this shows the system is working, people are actually doing it. But it also shows the url owner that their url has been bookmarked which is good to know. Lastly it also creates the possibility of thanking people or rewarding them.

Maybe set up a credit system with in SLS where after a certain amount of credits you are entitled to maybe a download, or access to a tool, or some thing.

So say after submitting 10 urls for other people you are rewarded 10 credits...

This actually gives people more of a reason to book mark but in advertently helps to motivate people and inturn grow this idea and the strength this offers.

Just a thought.

Cheers Guys

The problem with all of this is that these system used to work really well in the early days when you had everything based around a shout board or email discussion list. Then along came more sophisticated systems that in some cases you didn't even have to operate yourself and then manual systems died a death.

This system could work extremely well but unless we're prepared to invest in susbstantial infrastructure and I am not too sure whether there is enough ROI to it to justufy this, it might not fly (as they say).

I'll revisit this perhaps after we've expanded other parts of the Service Delivery.
